Splish Splash...

I had a an idea a while back about shooting dancers in a thin pool of water with high speed strobes.  Finally got some time to put it together, and was able to schedule it at the same time we were testing a high speed video camera.  We were able to put a quick clip together from the footage with the test camera, below, along with some behind the scenes footage.  Props to all the dancers for loaning us their amazing talent, it was a crazy fun day.  Images and videos after the jump.

In the Garage

Eric was on location recently shooting some nifty garage accessories for some pretty serious showroom displays. The trick was to get all the pieces to line up life-sized so they could be printed at 8 ft. by 14 ft. The displays will use the photos as a backdrop for the actual Craftsman cabinets to interact with. Keep an eye out at your local Sears store for the final product.

Outtake from the 2009 Holiday Video

As we brainstormed ideas for the 2009 Holiday Card to blur the line between stills and video. We ended up shooting with two cameras side-by-side (as you can see in our behind the scenes video.) But in order to make the dualiecam system work smoothly, we did a lot of testing along the way. I don't want to ruin the surprise, so let's just go to the video.

Upside Downy Face: The Movie

For those of you at the Upside Downy Face Gallery Showing on Dec. 4, you may have noticed that our behind-the-scenes video was on Mute-- we couldn't bear the cacophony of the film's soundtrack battling the DJ skills of Mr. Jim Harper. But now the video is live online, for all to see how many times Brandon botched his intro lines.

And don't worry-- there's lots more to the Upside Downy Face multimedia experience-- lots and lots of pictures from the gallery showing will be up soon.

cheers.

How We Rolled... Pinewood Derby REview Part 1

Another year, another Coolfire Pinewood Derby in the books. This year, Bruton Stroube's car meshed the nerd chic of wireless technology with the fashion sensibility of an awkward tween with a dash of hot nasty speed for good measure.

The Bruton Stroube car, lovingly referred to as Bedazzled, won its first few races, but eventually succumbed to the purely-built-for-speed-with-no-live-feed-webcam cars in the later rounds.

In our next issue, we'll share some of the video that came out of our machine. In this issue, we'll talk about what went into the construction of the car.

Now Playing: Behind The Scenes of Greg's Exploding Martini shoot

Over the winter, Greg put together a pretty killer book shot we called "The Exploding Martini." Over the summer, we put together the behind-the-scenes footage so you can get a glimpse of what went into this complex production.

Enjoy.

check out the final image after the jump.

The Nerdiest Wedding Reception Ever?

To celebrate my 2-month wedding anniversary, I thought I'd share with our loyal blog readers some of the ludicrous nerdery that went down at the reception on 6.7.08.

To start things off, I brought in Bruton Stroube's own Brandon Voges to run a photo booth in one corner of the reception hall. He had me shoot from a similar setup at his wedding reception, and the results were awesome (if I do say so myself). So I asked him to return the favor and shoot at my reception.

For the nerdy reception diagram, complete with specs and more photos, hit the jump.

Now Playing: Obi's Big Day

Not too long ago, Jon brought in his beloved poodle, Oberon, for a pet food shoot. Obi was alongside 20-some other dogs photographed as options for the food bags.

Although Obi didn't make the final cut and get his mug in pet owners' homes all over America, he did get a full spa treatment. Too bad he didn't think it was as fun as we did.

enjoy.

Now (Re-)Playing: Behind the Scenes of "The Paintball Office" Photo Shoot

After hitting a couple of snags with some music licenses, we're re-releasing the paintball office video with a new soundtrack, courtesy of yours truly.

If you haven't seen it yet, give it an ogle-- this video was picked up by blogs all over the place, netting us over a hundred thousand YouTube hits and making it our most successful video yet. Every time I make a new video, I think about how the paintball video set the bar. It was a semi-enjoyable nightmare to compose a new soundtrack for this video, so let us know what you think.

Now Playing: A Behind-The-Scenes look at Greg's Italian Food Shoot

Now that you've seen a few videos showcasing Brandon's work, we thought we should show you how Greg's food shoots go down. A half day of shooting, two food stylists, an assistant, a photographer and two bottles of wine later, you get an in-depth look at what what it takes to produce a portfolio-worthy photo by Greg Stroube.
