3rd Is The Nerd in The Metalflake Dress

Once again, Bruton Stroube nerded out and put a streaming web cam into our car for the Coolfire Pinewood Derby. This year, however, we improved our aerodynamics and moved up from 7th to 3rd place in the final standings.

Check out some pics of our Eric Johnson-hand-carved speed/technology machine (three more after the break). We'll be posting a montage of the car's first-person footage in the next couple days.

How We Roll... The Pinewood Derby Preview

Once again, we, the people of Bruton Stroube Studios, have entered Coolfire Media's Pinewood Derby. Last year, we fell short in the speed category. This year we're all about style and functionality.  Well, not really...check it out:

Nintendo DSI on Tour

It's always cool to see your projects come together in the real world. And this time, it was larger than life. We did a shoot for the new Nintendo DSi-- which is a fancy new handheld video game/social networking/goofing off device that has been updated with a camera and all sorts of fun editing tools.

Anyway, we did a day of shooting models playing around with these things and making goofy faces. In the end, the images were put together to make the wrapper for the DSi Tour Bus, which went all over the place to demo the new device. Lots more pics after the jump.

PowerBar Bites

We stumbled upon another set of packaging graced with BSS photography-- this time at the local REI store. Eric shot the food images for PowerBar's Bites-- delicious little nuggets packed with protein, carbs, and all the other good stuff to keep you firing on all cylinders. There are three flavors available: Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Raisin (not pictured). They're about 3 bucks a bag, and are pretty darn tasty.

Going Global

When Hill's Science Diet needed new images for their pet food packaging, they called on the good folks at Bruton Stroube Studios to fill their needs. As those new packages hit the shelves in Hong Kong, they caught the eye of an acquaintance of Eric Johnson, and she snapped this photo:

The store was still switching over from the older packaging to the new, which is why you see both vintages side by side. In the middle is the new, fancier Science Diet package-- featuring Saba, who happens to be Eric Johnson's Siberian Husky. So not only are Eric's images reaching consumers across the world, but they get to see the smiling face of his furry friend as well.

SIDE NOTE: The shelf prices are in Hong Kong dollars (7.75 HKD = $1.00 US)

COOOLD BEEEEAH!!

Cruisin' through the supermarket, and guess what I saw? Why, photos by Brandon Voges, of course... You might be wondering how we got such a genuine facial expression out of our talented barker. Naturally, we made him bark like a real ballpark beerslinger. Shouts of "Cold Beer!" and "Miller Lite!" echoed through the studio all day long.

Anyone up for a cold one?

Now Playing: St. John's Mercy TV Spot

Not too long ago, our friends at Waylon Advertising approached us with a very unique project-- to create a 30-second TV spot from still images. To add a little spice, they also noted that we would be shooting on location at the nursery at St. John's Mercy Hospital (read: limited production access), and that we would need to turn around the images (we'd need hundreds of stills to fill a 30-second spot) in less than a day.

A Tip of the Hat

We recently got a very interesting Thank You note in the mail. Not to toot our own horn that we would do something Thank-You-worthy (though we do like a little 'toot-toot' from time to time). Anyway, an Italian photographer and some of his homies had seen the Paintball Office video, and decided to take some of the techniques and run with them for their annual Christmas card (shown below).
